Arugula (Roquette) — Approx. 300 sds/pkt. Heirloom. Also known as roquette. Strong-tasting spinach-like greens with their delicious nutty flavour are very popular in salads or cooked like spinach. Grows to 1m (3') tall. Annual.
Basil (Genovese) — 250 seeds/pkt. A great addition to any herb garden. You will make perfect pesto every time with this very popular basil variety! There is a very spicy taste just waiting to get out of the large, 5 cm (2″) long, luscious-looking dark green leaves. This variety is quite slow to bolt. Annual.
Lemon Basil (Sweet Dani) — Approx. 150 sds/pkt. The strong lemon scent contained within the leaves adds zest to fish dishes, as well as soups and salads. This A.A.S. winner grows to 40 cm high. Annual.
Catnip — Approx. 700 seeds/pkt. The greyish-green, heart-shaped leaves make a soothing tea. And of course, cats go wild for it! In the garden, plants can grow to 90 cm high. Catnip will self-sow and establish persistent stands. In most situations, catnip is a short-lived perennial hardy in Zones 3-9.
Chives (Allium Schoenoprasum) — Approx. 400sds/pkt. Grows tufts of grassy, tubular-shaped leaves much like miniature onion leaves. Mild onion flavour in typical onion-shaped leaves, and produces pretty, edible, purple ball-shaped flowers about 2.25cm (1"). Grows in clusters to 15cm (6") tall. Perennial.
Dill — Essential pickling herb. Also adds wonderful flavour to salads, fish, vegetables, and egg dishes. Grows to 60-75cm (24-30") tall.
Japanese Greens (Mitsuba) — Approximately 375 seeds per packet. Add a touch of Japanese cuisine to your garden with Mitsuba, a delightful herb with a clean, fresh flavour reminiscent of celery and parsley. Both versatile and easy to grow, its leaves, stems, and roots are a gourmet addition to salads, soups, and a variety of cooked dishes.
Oregano — Approx. 500 seeds/pkt. Produces a plant that is a well-known member of the mint family. It is a mainstay in Italian, Spanish and Mexican cuisine; oregano goes well with tomato dishes. Used in herbal tea and, of course, goes hand-in-hand with most tomato dishes. Perennial hardy to Zone 5 with winter protection.
Parsley (Forest Green) — Approx. 750 seeds/pkt. Long, stiff, upright growing stems hold the dark green, finely cut and beautifully curled leaves well above the soil. This variety has broader leaves and is more flavourful than plain-leaved parsley. Holds its fresh look and deep colour quite well and resists browning and bleaching. The best variety for garnishing and a superb ornamental in combination with flowers for use in containers and planters.
Parsley (Plain Leaf Italian) — Approx. 750 seeds/pkt. The leaves of this parsley are flat, deeply cut and a vibrant, glossy dark green. The rich flavour contained within the leaves makes them an excellent choice for seasoning. This variety is widely used in European cuisine.
Rosemary — Approx. 100 seeds/pkt. Grow into a coarse, upright, bushy plant with pale blue flowers. An incredibly pleasing fragrance is released when the leaves are handled. There is no doubt that rosemary is an important (almost compulsory) component of poultry stuffing, but it also goes hand-in-hand with lamb and pork dishes. Plants can grow from 60 to 90 cm tall. A tender perennial hardy to Zone 7 with adequate winter protection. However, a single night with the temperature below -15° C is usually fatal.
Sweet Marjoram — Approx. 1,500 seeds/pkt. Produces leaves that are aromatic, mild, sweet and absolutely delicious in dressings, soups and salads. The plant is a vigorous grower, often reaching 60 cm in height. Also known as Pot Marjoram, French Marjoram or Cretan Oregano. A very tender perennial hardy only to Zone 7, it is almost always grown as an annual.
