How To Plan a Garden

With warm weather and sun rays shining, now is a great time to start thinking about your garden. The biggest question is where to start? Here's some quick tips that may help you get started!

  1. Sun. Determine how much sun the proposed area gets a day - this will be your key to success.

  2. Water. Is it easily accessible? Most plants require 2-3" of water per week, or more if located in the hot sun all day.

  3. Soil. If planting straight in to the ground, depending on the source and age of the soil it may be a good thing to adds things in like compost, fertilizer/nutrients, replenish OR start fresh with a good quality triple mix soil.

  4. Plants. Read labels, look for words like annuals (which live only for the season) or perennials (regrows back every year). Get information to see how big the plant will get when it matures - will it fit in your space when fully grown? Search up on your phone to see what your plant will look like when mature, this will help you picture how it would look like in your space.

These are just the basics to get you going - and remember that weeds are plants too, if you don't stay on top of them they will take over if you aren't pulling them out.

Happy Gardening!
